Call for Application

Starting from 2007 BOVA University Network offers a range of courses on Master and Doctoral level on internal funds. Accordingly the BOVA UN strategy for the period of 2009-2011 and the Action plan for 2009 these activities stays among the main BOVA UN activities. BOVA UN stimulates the continuation of the present successful courses and development of new courses and announcing this “Call for Application”.

The following procedure to apply for funds for the organisation of BOVA courses is developed and approved by BOVA CC and supported by BOVA Rectors’ Board.

 I. BOVA Intensive Master Courses (BIMC)

BOVA Intensive Master Courses have been the main activity type for many years and have played an important positive role in the students’ and teachers’ mobility and enhanced the development of the competences of the academic staff and students. The continuation of courses has been indicated as necessary and valuable both in students and teachers evaluation forms.

Teacher teams from BOVA member universities are welcome to apply for the organization of BOVA Intensive Master Courses in 2010.

A BOVA Intensive Master Course (BIMC) should fulfill the following basic criteria:

- last for a minimum of five days (preferably have a distance learning part);

- have partner teachers from at least two BOVA member universities (host university included); invitation of teachers from NOVA UN and other European higher education institutions in the teaching team are very advisable;

- visiting students from at least two member universities;

- minimum number of Master students should be fixed to 10;

- course time – spring and autumn semester 2010 (preferable time: spring – March, autumn – October).

 II. BOVA Intensive Doctoral Courses (BIDC)

BOVA Intensive Doctoral Courses have become quite important activity in the last years and planned to be developed further in order to offer high quality courses recognizable on international level. To give the BOVA Doctoral students, young researchers a wider and deeper knowledge in specific fields - this goal can be reached by joint efforts and development of BOVA Doctoral courses.

A BOVA Intensive Doctoral course (BIDC) should fulfill the following basic criteria:

-          last for a minimum of five days (preferably have a distance learning part);

-          have partner teachers from at least two BOVA member universities (host university included); including of top level professionals outside BOVA UN in the teaching team are very commendable (NOVA UN, EU countries and others);

-          visiting students from at least two member universities;

-          minimum number of PhD students in specialized course should be fixed to 10 with a possible exception for veterinary medicine where the number of participants may be lower if accepted by BOVA CC. The minimum number of participants for common courses should be 15. Common courses should be open for teachers from member universities as well.

Teacher teams from BOVA member universities are welcome to apply for the organization of BOVA Intensive Doctoral Courses in 2010.

Funding policy:

 1)      Application to all possible donors is supported and advisable (with aim to reduce each member university financial contribution). Applicants will be supported by BOVA Secretariat and BOVA coordinators in preparation of these applications (if such a need will rise).

2)      If the course is approved by BOVA CC but did not get the external funds – internal funds shall be used from applicants’ universities to run the course at basic costs*.

3)      If the course is approved by BOVA CC and get a partial financing of course from external sources, the co-financing part shall be used from applicants’ universities.

4)      BOVA teacher’s remuneration (if it is not foreseen in external funding) shall be paid by each member university.

5)      Non-BOVA teachers should be paid from the course budget (if no other sources are available).

6)      ERASMUS, NORDPLUS mobility grants should be used for teacher’s mobility in all relevant cases.

 * The standard BOVA course budged should be not exceeded: for BIMC - total course budget 6 000 EUR, cost for 1 student 300 EUR and for BIDC - total course budget 9 000 EUR, cost for 1 student 450 EUR.

 According to the agreement in the BOVA UN, academic networks willing to use BOVA “umbrella” in planning master or doctoral level courses and having own external funding (on full scale) should also present basic information about the course filling in only the application form. If external funding covers course expenses partly academic networks can apply for support from BOVA UN but in this case they should also submit the BOVA course budget form (indicating the amount of needed support).

 Submitted applications will be evaluated by BOVA CC and the approved courses will be announced in the beginning of November 2009.

 The final list of courses will be approved by BOVA Rector's Board in the beginning of December 2009.

 Approval of the course will be sent by BOVA Secretariat to the course leader (copy to respective BOVA coordinator).

 After the approval the course leader in cooperation with local BOVA coordinator shall start preparatory work on course:

 a)      the detailed course program should be worked out or improved/completed and submitted to the BOVA Secretariat no later than 2 moths before the course (distance part) starts;

b)      course advertisement (a course flyer) should be produced no later then 2 moths before the course (distance part) starts;

c)      all useful information as regards the course shall be sent to BOVA Secretary to be placed on bova webpage.

d)     course teachers’ team is responsible for the preparation of the study material in English and be distributed before the lectures;

e)      list of useful sources of pre-reading should be distributed to course participants in time.

f)       within one week after the deadline the course leader together with the local BOVA coordinator shall inform the course applicant about having been accepted to the course and provide him/her with practical information about location, travel, accommodation, board and other things.

BOVA CC chairman has responsibility to cancel the accepted course if it is not fulfill all requirements. Local course organizers is asked to inform BOVA CC chairman and BOVA secretariat  if any inadequacy will appears in preparatory stage in order to solve the problem or cancel the course.
