Meeting of EUROFORESTER

Partners of the joint MSc programme �European Master of Forestry with Focus on the Baltic Sea Region� � EUROFORESTER, met at the Lithuanian University of Agriculture in Kaunas, in May 7-8, 2004. Twelve universities from eight countries (Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Russia) jointly run the international MSc programme. The programme has been supported by IKEA company, The Nordic Council of Ministers, The Swedish Institute and the NOVA-BOVA network. At the meeting, 30 representatives of from all 12 universities discussed how to further develop collaboration in the frame of a EU Socrates curriculum development project.

The partners addressed a number of issues such as adoption of e-learning methods, recognition of a joint MSc degree, recruitment of students, and complementary research activities. Four working groups will proceed with elaborating the following parts of curriculum: i) Boreal ecology and silviculture, ii) Forest management planning, iii) Forest policy, and iv) Nemoral ecology and silviculture.
