NOVA-BOVA seminar in Estonia
2004-11-06

In autumn 2004, NOVA-BOVA network faces important organizational decisions due to changes in internal and external funding and the expanding scope of activities. To address these issues, a NOVA-BOVA working seminar took place in Parnu, Estonia, on 28-29 October 2004. Representatives of all main entities of NOVA and BOVA administration and leadership of each BOVA member university discussed the results of internal evaluation of the NOVA-BOVA cooperation in 2002-2004. Seminar materials are available under hyperlink:  http://www.bova-university.org/index.php?list=sem2004.

The plenary session started by an introductory part that reviewed the latest developments on NOVA and BOVA sides. Next, results of NOVA-BOVA self-evaluation were presented from perspective of different stakeholders. The key discussions took part in two workshop sessions. First, the main NOVA-BOVA entities reviewed their activities and prepared proposals to a NOVA-BOVA self-evaluation report. Second, each BOVA member university held a separate workshop focusing on strategic priorities for cooperation in 2005-2007 and anchoring of NOVA-BOVA activities at faculty and department level. Many valuable ideas and commitments from universities were reported after this session.

The NOVA Rector Paul Jensn rounded up the seminar by highlighting its main findings. He particularly stressed the need of BOVA and NOVA-BOVA strategies, more rigid prioritization of activities, and the importance of anchoring of network activities at home universities.

The seminar was followed-up by excursion to wondrous Saaremaa, the largest Estonian island in the Baltic Sea. Photo highlights of the seminar and excursion can be found under http://www.bova-university.org/index.php?list=sem2004.
