BOVA Seminar 2011

Cross-border higher education in agriculture, forestry, veterinary and related sciences - Baltic collaboration

December 8-9,2011

Aleksandras Stulginskis University, Kaunas, Lithuania

This seminar is aimed to gather together staff and students from BOVA member institutions taking part in BOVA activities in order openly and widely discuss the most vital collaboration points for benefits of all involved parties and based on these discussions to work out the BOVA strategy for next working period of 3 years. In parallel during this seminar will be touch the items related with the cross-border higher education, the role of BOVA in providing CBHE and future actions.

Congratulations to BOVA member institutions

This year September is not only traditionally the beginning on the new study year in BOVA member universities but as well the time of anniversaries.

BOVA partner universities sending warmest greetings to the academic and students' societies of the Veterinary Academy  of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences on 75th  years anniversary and the Estonian University of Life Sciences on 60th years anniversary occasions.

The Baltic cooperation in the field of higher education and research in agricultural, forestry, veterinary medicine and related branches has very long traditions and BOVA University network cooperation have plaid very significant role in the strengthening and developing the international studies in BOVA member institutions and stimulating more intensive academic networking.

Summing up activities of 15 years of BOVA UN we are proud that this network during these years have involved so many students and teaching staff and each of participants has bring something useful from it.

Thanks to all BOVA active participants for your enthusiasm and cooperation. CONGRATULATIONS  to BOVA!

Meeting of BOVA e-specialists WG

BOVA e-specialists WG will have their meeting in Jelgava at LLU on June 14, 2011.

The main aim of the meeting is to evaluate the process of integrating of e-studies form in BOVA activities and plan the next steps in the development of this area. At the same time e-specialists will schare the experience and introduce with the latest development in this field at the corresponding universities.

There are two courses planned to be offered in the autumn term 2011 very closely related with the actual  items in landscape architecture and planning but at the same time with the interdisciplinary approach making course interesting for students from various fields of studies.

First course is on Master level: "Landscape studio" , 24th-28th October, 2011, Latvia University of Agriculture, Jelgava, Latvia.

The registration for the courses is open. Deadline is September 1 and September 15 respectively.

Courses is adressed primarly to the students from BOVA member institutions, NOVA students are kindly welcome to apply for participation.

Master students is asked to contact local NORDPLUS coordinators to get financial support, PhD students is asked to cover travel expenses on your own.

Students outside BOVA or NOVA is legible to apply for participation hovewer the participation fee will be charged.

BOVA Call for Application 2012-2013

BOVA UN announce the annual Call for Application for organization of BOVA Intensive courses on 2 levels: BIMC - BOVA Intensive Master courses and BIDC - BOVA Intensive Doctoral Courses. This call is referable to the BOVA activities for the period January 2012 - May 2013.

Teachers, researchers from BOVA member institutions are welcome to apply for BOVA course organization to improve their international teachers' skills and work in the the international environment. The application procedure, course requirements and other necessary information is described in the Call for Application 2012-2013.

Deadline for Application is May 31st, 2011.

Renewable Energy Technologies

Intensive course on Renewable Energy Technologies  for MSc students was the last course from the range of courses supported by the NORDPLUS programme in 2010/2011 study year within the NOVA/BOVA Nordplus network project which took place in Kaunas at the Lithuanian University of Agriculture from April 11-15, 2011.

The participants from 5 partner institutions took part in this course (LLU, LZUU, EMU, HU-AF, UEF), the interest about this course was big among the students and as the class size is limited unfortunately not all applicants were accepted.

This big interest just prove the importance of course topic and as well the importance of teaching team which in this case consist of leading specialists from 3 Baltic countries and Finland.

Course leader, professor Kestutis Navickas from LZUU using already established contact via different research projects, conferences and other international events formed very strong International teaching team, where each country presenting the topics where they are best of. For example, about Wind Energy lecture will be given by lecturer from EMU, about Solar Energy and Bio fuels by lecturers from LLU, lecturer from HU-AF will teach about Energy Analysis on Bio energy Systems, but majority of topics such as Renewable Energy Resources in general, Environmental Considerations , Hydro power Development etc. will by covered by lecturers from LZUU, the main course initiators organising similar course already for the 3rd time.

Before this intensive week students had the distance learning part which consisted of individual tasks and pre readings and the course will be ended by presentation of group work and tasks for individual work.

Course on Sustainable Pig Production

Are you interested in Sustainable Pig Production and how the production looks like in some of our neighboring countries? Then apply to the course “Sustainable Pig Production” within the NOVA/BOVA University Network!

An international course on advanced level, 5 ECTS, autumn 2011.

The course is primarily intended for Nordic and Baltic university students in animal science / veterinary medicine. We see similar challenges for pig production in the Baltic countries as in most of the Nordic countries: structural problems, the need for increased efficiency, sustainability, quality, and global competition. The main contents in the course will concern pigs welfare, nutrition and feeding, management, health and disease problems, housing, and environmental effects. International contacts and insight in pig production in different countries are important parts of the course.

Prerequisites:
Knowledge equivalent to 120 credits including 90 credits within animal science, agricultural science, veterinary medicine or biology and English B.
