Organic Agriculture
Summary
The aim of the proposed
course is to give an overview of modern organic farming system, to
exchange information on the current state of knowledge and experience in
organic agriculture, to improve the analytic skills of young studying
organic agriculture and to create contacts among them.
The course will
emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of organic agriculture. The
programme of the course include development and perspective of organic
agriculture, components of ecosystem, soil fertility, nutritional
balance at a farm level, crop cultivation, weed control strategy and
principles of weed ecology, catch crops, environmental impacts of
organic agriculture; role and function of biodiversity, control of pests
and diseases in organic plant production, perennial grasslands,
horticulture, and farm conversion system.
Course programme is
extended with practical field trips and group-work sessions with
discussions.
Home task:
Individual distance
studies of the obligatory literature and presentation on one of the
topics proposed by course organizers. Presentations should concentrate
on the problems in the home country.
