Agroenvironmental measures in sustainable agriculture
Summary
The aim of the course is to clarify possibilities of agro-environmental
measures to decrease the nature pollution, maintain soil fertility and to
obtain qualitative yield in organic agriculture farms. The course is
intended to MSc students and also practitioners and farmers interested in
organic agriculture.
Course topics:
Pollution from agriculture and water quality in the Baltic States.
Possibilities to increase nature quality by the implementation of
organic agriculture.
Soil fertility, crop protection and weed control in the organic
agriculture systems.
Integration of animal husbandry and grasslands in organic
agriculture.
Animal welfare.
The study tours to organic farms will give an overview on advantages
and problems of organic agriculture in Latvia.
The course will consist of the distance learning part - one month
before the course students will get the articles on the course topic and
specific home task and during the meeting in person will have lectures of
the Baltic and Nordic teachers as well as the group workshops, the
presentation of home works, the study tour.
