The Nordic Forestry, Veterinary and Agricultural University Network (NOVA UN) offers every year high quality PhD courses in wide range of topics. NOVA courses are taught by leading researchers and are great meeting places for PhD students working in similar scientific fields.
For many years BOVA had possibility to apply for Course scholarship grants at NordForsk. This grants allowed to send every year approximately 40-50 BOVA PhD students. Such possibility is absent because of the end for such support instrument as "Course scholarships".
BOVA secretariat now could just provide the usefully information of available courses at NOVA UN but searching for financial support each willing to participate student should do by themselves (or at home universities or using available national programs) and take a direct contact to respective course administrator. In case of needed any assistance you should contact BOVA secretariat directly or your local BOVA coordinators.

NOVA PhD courses in Baltic countries
Course Title: Applied statistics with R for the agricultural, life and veterinary sciences, August 2011.
Course leader: prof. Jens C. Streibig, LIFE
Preliminary place: Jelgava, LLU, Latvia
Experience from previous NOVA courses, held in Riga in 2007 and in Jelgava in 2009 and 2010, showed that the course serves as a stimulating environment for networking between participants and teachers, providing lasting contacts between life and veterinary scientists and statisticians in the Nordic region. In the long run, the PhD courses could also strengthen the ties between universities in the Baltic and Nordic area.
This is an excellent example how in simple way to strengthen the cooperation between two similar networks. BOVA UN is declaring for the long time the willingness to host the NOVA PhD courses in Baltics, especially in the BOVA member institutions and BOVA coordinators could serve as the best assistants in all organisational matters such as housing, board, lecturing environment etc.
Up to now this opportunity has been used by prof. Jens C. Streibig for 3 years and LLU with great assistance of BOVA coordinator Gatis Kasparinskis who has assisted in all organisational matters. BOVA welcomes again and again this enthusiastic professor Jens C. Streibig who are attracting so many young teachers and students to offer courses in Baltics. Other NOVA PhD course leaders are welcome to consider the possibility to organise course in Baltic but if you are not sure yet, probably the contact with This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
