Registration for BOVA course at ASU

BOVA Intensive master course on Economics and Management of Rural Development is opened for registration of master level students from BOVA as well NOVA institutions with deadline November 1, 2012.

Meeting of the NOVA/BOVA Nordplus network coordinators will take place on October 9-10 in Helsinki at the faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Helsinki University which is since 2012 is the NOVA/BOVA Nordplus Network coordinator.  Joint NOVA and BOVA forces have been combined since 2008 in Nordplus programme activities whose implementing various number of intensive courses and ensuring wide student's mobility flow. This time Network members will put emphasis on items related to the initiation of joint undergraduate  and postgraduate courses, motivation of teaching staff in organising of joint activities as well will be touched such issues on promotion of teachers mobility within Nordplus and feedback from students used Nordplus mobility.

3 other Nordplus networks coordinated by the University of Helsinki  will be presented  on this meeting and shared best practice.

Registration for Intensive courses

In the frames of NOVA/BOVA Nordplus Network project  BOVA member institutions organising 2 Intensive courses for Master level students in autumn term and registration of students to the courses below is open until September 12,2012.

- Land Administration in Baltic Countries, LLU, Jelgava, Latvia, 22-26 October, 2012;

- Pomology and Fruit Sciences, ASU, Kaunas, Lithuania, 8-12 October, 2012.

All expenses will be covered by course Grant and BOVA side, as regards travel expenses you are welcome to contact your local Nordplus coordinator.

LLU hosting NOVA PhD course on Statistics

NOVA PhD Course on Applied statistics with R for the agricultural, life and veterinary sciences.

35 PhD students from NOVA and BOVA member institutions (about 20 nationalities) spend at Latvia University of Agriculture in Jelgava intensive days from August 12 to 17. This group of students devoted this summer week to study the statistical methods with the program "R" in order to help analyze their own research data. Course leader prof. Jens C.Streibig from Copenhagen University and three statisticians from KU and an instructor from Finland ran the course for the 5th time. The running of the course for NOVA and BOVA PhD students in Latvia gives a good example to other course leaders of NOVA courses that this is an excellent way to further the cooperation between NOVA and BOVA and help creating network of students and teachers  paticulary  with BOVA institutions.

Studies in this course was arranged in very intensive way, starting from 8:00 to 18:00 every day and after the dinner individual consultations at the hotel  almost until midnight under the supervision of excellent NOVA course teachers: Christian Ritz, Chistian Pipper, Catarina Simoes and Jens C. Streibig and from Switzerland Florent Baty. 

LLU is ready to host this course next years as well and welcome NOVA students and teachers.

BOVA UN made decision to prolong the annual Call for application on organisation of BOVA courses. The new deadline for Applications is September 14, 2012.

The annual Call for Application on organisation of BOVA courses for 2 levels of studies: BIMC - BOVA Intensive Master Courses and BIDC -BOVA Intensive Doctoral courses welcome teachers, researcher from BOVA member institutions to apply for BOVA course organisation. This Call is referable to the BOVA activities for the period January 2013- May 2014.

ERASMUS IP at BOVA member institutions

ERASMUS Intensive Programme is a short programme of study which brings together students and teaching staff from HEI of countries participating in the LLP (Lifelong Learning programme) and has multidisciplinary approach.

In recent years at each BOVA member institution the activity to apply for ERASMUS IP grant has been intensified and bring positive results, especially at LLU.

In study year 2011/2012  LLU coordinating 2 ERASMUS IP: "Project-based Approach in the Development of Agriculture" and "Modelling in Systems Biology and Synthetic Biology", EMU 1 ERASMUS IP "Pollution in Europe 2012" and ASU also 1 ERASMUS IP "Role of Agriculture and Natural Resources in Sustainable Rural Development".

For study year 2012/2013 LLU has received positive results on 3 ERASMUS IP applications, 2 of them renewal of above mentioned IP and additionally one new on "Veterinary Publish Health and Emerging Zoonotic Diseases"

Presently ERASMUS IP "Modelling in systems biology and synthetic biology" take part at LLU and will last from June 2 to 13, 2012. This topic attracted 30 students from 8 universities (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg, Germany, University of Manchester and Oxford-Brookes University, Great Britain, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Estonian University of Life Sciences, University of Latvia and Latvia University of Agriculture). Strong international teachers' team (11 lecturers)  lead by assoc.prof. Egils Stalidzans (LLU)  representing mentioned above universities and additionally University of Iceland and Kaunas University of Technology. They will make efforts during these 2 intensive weeks to give to provide to IP participant better understanding in the field of system biology and synthetic biology. Master level students are invited to register for BOVA Intensive mater courses which will be held in August, September and October 2012.

BOVA UN offers a range of Intensive courses with duration  of face to face part - 1 week at BOVA member institutions. Thematic of courses are differ and students are welcome to search for interested topics on Courses 2012 where detailed description of courses are given.

Registration is simple: fill in BOVA Mobility  Registration form and send to respective BOVA coordinator before the deadline. Earlier applications have preference.

Courses marked as NORDPLUS have received NORDPLUS financial support and majority of expenses of BOVA and NOVA students are covered. For other BOVA courses students are welcome to apply  for NORDPLUS Express Mobility Grants at your home institutions via BOVA coordinators.

Closest deadline for course on Causes and consequences of pollinator decline is July 1, 2012.
